The observatory is situated in a small clearing of approximately 1 km2 at the edge of a reservoir formed by a hydroelectric generating dam on the Abitibi River at the head of the Abitibi canyon. The station is located within a region that has extensive wetland coverage. The terrain in the surrounding area is slightly rolling with extensive areas of impeded drainage.
