Description |
: |
The station is located on a coastal cliff, of a remote sub-Antractic marine coast. Steady winds blow from clean air sector (SW) down the Beagle Channel.
Tierra del Fuego and its adjacent oceanic area are under the westerlies influence. The geographical features of this region are critical for its meteorological conditions. In fact, as in the rest of the Patagonia, land extension is not enough to develop continental air masses and the topography only influence precipitation and wind. As a consequence, the region is only under the influence of sub-polar oceanic air masses from the Pacific, which defines a maritime climate on islands and channels.
The ground in the vicinity of the station is covered with pasture and bush. The vegetation in the surrounding area (30 km) is consisting mainly of Notophagus forest.
The city of Ushuaia is placed 4 km northwest. |
