BEO "Moussala" is a high mountain station on the peak Moussala (2925 m asl) in Rila Mountain. The mission of BEO "Moussala" is to observe, to monitor and to study the global change, climate, aerospace and terrestrial environment, natural hazards and technological risks.
Peak Moussala is the coldest place in Bulgaria with an average annual temperature -3.1 deg C,a monthly average wind speed from 10.5 m/s in February to 4.5 m/s in July and with average wind direction N-NE. The average annual precipitation is 1000-1300 mm.The peak Moussala climate is mountainous in the European continental zone with a Mediteranean impact on its south slopes. It is situated about 50-60 km away from the industrial areas. The peak Moussala is visited by tourists mainly in late summer because it is hard accessible during the greater part (6-8 months) of the year. |
