Observation
Category : Air sampling observation
Situation : ongoing
Time zone : Local time +1

Sampling
Sampling height :
Description : continuous
Sampling and analysis frequency : Continuous
Sampling environment : measurements in pristine air, usually negligible local sources
Description for sampling analysis : NOy is determinded as NO after conversion on a heated gold catalyst (300 °C) with 2% CO as a reducing agent.
Data are stored as 10-minute averages.

Instrument and Analysis
Measurement method : Chemiluminescence
Current status and history of instrument : Chemiluminescence, CRANOX, EcoPhysics (Duernten, Switzerland)
Description of instrument : EcoPhysics
CLD 770/gold converter (till 22 January 2007)
CLD 89p/gold converter (since 22 January 2007)

Calibration
Current scale employed in the measurement : NMI PRM BD11 (20ppm ± 0.2ppm)
Measurement calibration : Every 23 hours an automatic zero-check and an automatic span correction is performed for NO. The conversion efficiency of the gold converter is checked every 49h with NO2 that is generated by gas phase titration of NO with O3.
Scale and calibration(treasability) : From 1991 UNTIL 09/2001: NIST SRM 2629a (20ppm ± 0.2ppm);
Since 09/2001: NMI PRM BD11 (20ppm ± 0.2ppm)

Data Processing
Measurement unit : ppbv
Data processing : Data availability required for calculation: >= 75% of 10-minute values.
Processing for averaging : Processing for Hourly Data:
Overall measurement uncertainties were estimated to be 9% for NOy at 500 ppt (see Zellweger et al., JGR, 2000). This includes the precision of the CLDs, the NO standard uncertainty, the conversion efficiency of the Au catalyst and artifact uncertainties of the zero air check.
