Observation
Category : Air sampling observation
Situation : ongoing
Time zone : UTC

Sampling
Sampling height : 8
Description : continuous
Sampling and analysis frequency : Continuous; one minute averages are validated and archived.
Sampling environment : The dominant source of surface ozone for Antarctica is mainly transport of upper troposheric or stratospheric air. Local photochemistry acts as a sink due to very low NOx mixing ratios (around 2-5 pptv).
Description for sampling analysis : Ambient air is continuously sampled through a teflon tube by a vacuum pump (flow rate 1.6 L/min)

Instrument and Analysis
Measurement method : Light absorption analysis (UV)
Current status and history of instrument : EEC (1982-1994) , UV Photometer(1995-) Environment s.a. type O3-41M
Description of instrument : Environment s.a.
Environment s.a. ozone analyzer type O3-41M

Calibration
Current scale employed in the measurement : Observer's standard scale
Measurement calibration : internal O3 calibration source, comparison with second O3 analyzer and ECC-sondes
Scale and calibration(treasability) :

Data Processing
Measurement unit : ppb
Data processing : the original data resolution is 1 minute since the year 2000 and 3 minutes before 2000. Data taken during zeroing periods, calibration or instrument malfunction were removed.
Processing for averaging : Processing for Hourly Data:
1 hour means were calculated from the validated one-minute averages.

Data flag : -9999.99
Data remarks :

Other Information
Scientific aim : Scientific aim of observation is to investigate tropospheric ozone minima and to provide long-term surface ozone data in the pristine troposphere
