Observation
Category : Air sampling observation
Situation : ongoing
Time zone : Local time +9

Sampling
Sampling height : 198808-199303:4.5m, 199304-201104:2m, 201105-:5m
Description : continuous
Sampling and analysis frequency : Continuous flow of 1.5liters per minute and data is analyzed every 15 seconds.
Height of air intake: 4.5 meter above the ground (1988 August-1993 March),2 meter(1993 April-2011 April),5 meter(2011 May-present).
Sampling environment : The Observatory is located about 60km northeast of Tokyo. The Observatory is surrounded by the grass and dotted with cedars.
Description for sampling analysis : Air is sampled from a Teflon intake mounted at aground height of 5 m on the roof of the observation room with about 10 liters per min. The air sample is introduced to the observation system through an inlet tube made of Teflon. The air is dried with an electric cooler unit at a dew-point temperature around 5 degrees centigrade. The flow rate in the gas analyzer is 1.5 liter per minute.

Instrument and Analysis
Measurement method : Light absorption analysis (UV)
Current status and history of instrument : Aug.1998-Oct.2006 EG-2001F Ebara Jitsugyo Co.Ltd
Nov.2006-present EG-2001FTP Ebara Jitsugyo Co.Ltd
Description of instrument : Measurement range:0 to 0.2ppm
Linearity: ±0.5%(full scale)
Resolution: 1ppb
Repeatability: ±0.5%FS/Month
Zero drift: <0.5%(full scale)per Month
Span drift: <0.5%(full scale)per Month

Calibration
Current scale employed in the measurement : the WMO scale(NIST SRP)
Measurement calibration : Zero point and spans of the three points(50,100,150ppb) of the instrument are checked once a year with an ozone generator(TEI Model49C-PS),which is calibrated against the WMO reference standard(SRP#2) at NIST every 2 years.
Scale and calibration(treasability) : 1988 August -2004 October: Original scale(KI method)
2004 Nevember-present: the WMO scale(NIST SRP)
The data during 1988 August-2004 October are corrected according to the WMO scale.

Data Processing
Measurement unit : ppb
Data processing : The raw data from instrument is collected by the data acquisition system ,and stored in the system as every 15 seconds raw data.
Processing for averaging : Processing for Hourly Data:
Hourly data are taken from the arithmetic mean of Observed 15-seconds data for one hour after the irregular and evident error data are rejected.

Processing for Daily Data:
Daily data are taken from the arithmetic mean of selected hourly data.
Processing for Monthly Data:
Monthly data are taken from the arithmetic mean of selected hourly data.
Data flag :
Data remarks :

Other Information
Scientific aim : To provide critical data for research and study to reveal long term trends at the Eurasia.
