Observation
Category : Air sampling observation
Situation : ongoing
Time zone : Local time +10

Sampling
Sampling height : 10
Description : continuous
Sampling and analysis frequency : Minutely observations are obtained and recorded, hourly averages are prepared from these.
Sampling environment : In the direction of 190 to 280 degrees from North, the atmospheric environment is the remote marine boundary layer. To the south and east of the station is Tasmania. In the northerly sector is the mainland of Australia and the city of Melbourne (approximately 300 km away).
The station is located on a cliff top 94m above sea level
Description for sampling analysis : The air sampling inlet is a 10m laminar flow vertical inlet.

Instrument and Analysis
Measurement method : Light absorption analysis (UV)
Current status and history of instrument : From 3 June, 2004, Thermoelectron Model 49C ozone monitor Serial No 49C-78058-387 (locally called T3) has been the main ozone analyser.
Since 2010 the Thermoelectron Model 49CPS ozone calibrator Serial No 49CPS-78059-387 has been the laboratory calibrator.
Description of instrument :

Calibration
Current scale employed in the measurement : The data for 2004 to 2011 are on the WMO scale via EMPA Switzerland, calibration audits: Nov-Dec 2002, March 2010. The earlier surface ozone data on the WDCGG site for 1982-2003 is on a different scale and the two data sets should not be combined for long term trends. Corrected data for the earlier period are being prepared.
Measurement calibration : By EMPA Switzerland, last calibration audit: March 2010
Scale and calibration(treasability) : The data for 2004 to 2011 are on the WMO scale via EMPA Switzerland, calibration audits: Nov-Dec 2002, March 2010. The earlier surface ozone data on the WDCGG site for 1982-2003 is on a different scale and the two data sets should not be combined for long term trends. Corrected data for the earlier period are being prepared.

Data Processing
Measurement unit : ppb
Data processing :
Processing for averaging :

Data flag : 1982-2003 : missing: -99, calibration: 000, normal: ...
2004- : No flags
Data remarks :

Other Information
Scientific aim : surface ozone monitoring in mid-latitudes of the southern hemisphere and research related to global and regional processes controlling and influences of tropospheric ozone.
