Observation
Category : Air sampling observation
Situation : ongoing
Time zone : UTC

Sampling
Sampling height : 5
Description : continuous
Sampling and analysis frequency : Continuous, measuring interval is 10 seconds (7 seconds flushing and 3 seconds integrating time).
Sampling environment : It is located at an altitude of 3459 m above sea level, at a small city in Northern Argentina (Jujuy Province), on the Southern bank of a dry river called La Quiaca, a border town opposite the small village of Villazón (Bolivia).
The weather is dry with a large difference between max and min temperatures.
The prevailing wind is NNW in Winter and NE in Summer. Towards the SSE at an altitude of 1000 m there is a main power generator (Diesel). Towards the East, at about 100 m away, there is a Bus Terminus.
The vegetation in the region is of a desert type with low humidity.
Description for sampling analysis : Sampling and Analyses Intake height: 4 m above the ground on the top of the station building, 1 m above the roof.
Inlet/Manifold: from there connections to the ozone instruments by PFA tubing, approximate length 6 m to the instrument.
Total flow rate 1.2 liter per minute
Teflon inlet filter before analyzer, exchanged monthly.

Instrument and Analysis
Measurement method : Light absorption analysis (UV)
Current status and history of instrument : Since Jan.1996 – To Dec. 1998 continued, as part of SCOP3 Project TEI 49 \#54577-300
Since Jun. 2005 - to Dec 2006 continued.
Since Apr. 2007 - to Dec 2007 continued.
Since Jun 2010 - to Dec 2010 continued.
Since April 2011 TEI49C \# 61161-330 on going
new instrument on service
Description of instrument : Analyzer working continuously.
Designed ranges: 00-0.05 a 200 ppm
Zero noise: 0.5 ppb, RMS
Minimum detectable limit: 1 ppb
Zero deviation: < 1 ppb/24 h
Deviation from the slope: ±1% monthly
Answer time of 20 seconds
Precision: 1 ppb
Linearity: ±1% máximum scale
Sample flow: 1-3 liters/min
Operation Temperature: 20-30°C
Consumption: 210-250 v, 50/60 Hz
Dimensions 16,753\" (width) x 8,623\" (height) x 233\" (depth)
Weight: 45 lbs.

Calibration
Current scale employed in the measurement : Travelling standard, traceable to NIST
Measurement calibration : Intercomparison at the Regional Calibration Centre (RIII WMO) for Surface Ozone (RCC-BsAs)by WCC-Empa in 2006 and 2010.
Scale and calibration(treasability) : The data refer to the WCC O3 standard.
Absolute scale, ppb.

Data Processing
Measurement unit : ppb
Data processing : Take into account that the surface O3 data could be affected when the wind blows from the E and the SSE sectors where there are Co2 polluted sources.
Processing for averaging : Processing for Hourly Data:
The hourly mean value is calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the samples taken every minute (before 2005 they were mean values taken every 15 minutes).
Processing for Daily Data:
The daily value is calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the 24 hourly values taken during the day.
Processing for Monthly Data:
The monthly values are calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the days for that month.
Data flag : Flag 0– Valid data.
Flag 1- Invalid or suspect data
