Observation
Category : Air sampling observation
Situation : interrupt
Time zone : UTC

Sampling
Sampling height : 4
Description : continuous
Sampling and analysis frequency : Continuous, measuring interval is 10 seconds (7 seconds flushing and 3 seconds integrating time).
Sampling environment : The Observatory is located to the West (W) of San Julián City (Santa Cruz Province). It is 8 Km from San Julián Bay (Atlantic Ocean) (49.19º S, 67.47º W) at an altitude of 62 meters above sea level. The distance by road from Río Gallegos (Capital Province) is 373 Km.
The prevailing winds blow from the Western– Southwestern (W-SW) sector.
The ground where the Observatory is situated is characterized by small hills, canyons or cliffs (near to sea).
The local airport is situated near the Observatory.
Description for sampling analysis : Sampling and Analyses Intake height: 4 m above ground on top of the station building, 2 m above the roof.
Inlet/Manifold: the connections to the ozone instruments are through PFA tubing, length approx. 6 m to instrument.
Total flow rate: 1.6 liter per minute
Teflon inlet filter before analyzer, exchanged monthly.
Residence time in the sampling line: approx. 2 s.

Instrument and Analysis
Measurement method : Light absorption analysis (UV)
Current status and history of instrument : Instrument model TEI 49 \#49983-285
Product name: Model 49
Manufacturer: Thermo Environmental Instruments Inc
Since Jan. 1997 - to Mar 1997 continued.
Since Sep. 1997 - to Oct. 2000 continued.
Since Dec. 2000 - to Jun. 2001 continued.
Since Dec. 2001 - to Apr. 2002 continued.
After that, it out of service throughout the year.
It continues to be out of service.

Description of instrument : TEI 49 characteristics:
Internal ozone generator
Range: 0-100 ppb
Precision: 0.002 ppm
Linearity: ± 0.001 ppm
Noise: ± 0.001 ppm
Minimum detectable: Limit 0.002 ppm
Response Time: (0 to 95%) 20 seconds
Lag time: 10 seconds
Flow Rate: 1 – 3 liters per minutes
Analog output: 0-10 V

Calibration
Current scale employed in the measurement : Travelling standard, traceable to NIST
Measurement calibration : Intercomparison at the Regional Calibration Centre (RIII WMO) for Surface Ozone (RCC-BsAs) by WCC-Empa in 2006 and 2010.
Scale and calibration(treasability) : The data refer to the WCC O3 standard.
Absolute scale, ppb.

Data Processing
Measurement unit : ppb
Data processing :
Processing for averaging : Processing for Hourly Data:
The hourly mean value is calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the samples taken every 15 minutes.
Processing for Daily Data:
The daily value is calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the 24 hourly values taken during the day.
Processing for Monthly Data:
The monthly values are calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the days for that month.
Data flag : Flag 0 – Valid data.
Flag 1 - Invalid or suspect data
