Sampling and analysis frequency |
: |
Continuous, measuring interval is 10 seconds (7 seconds flushing and 3 seconds integrating time). |
Sampling environment |
: |
Marambio (the main Argentine station in Antarctica) is located in Seymour/Marambio ice-free Island, on the north-east side of the Antarctic Peninsula.
The average temperatures at the site are -1.5 °C during the summer, and −15 °C during winter, though strong winds can lower the apparent temperature down to −60 °C.
Prevailing winds are from the N-NW and S-SW, with a current average of 8.4 ms-1.
Possible sources are the power plant and the runway airplane located to the SW and N respectively.
|
Description for sampling analysis |
: |
Sampling and Analyses Intake height: 5 m above ground on top of the station building.
Inlet/Manifold: from there connections ozone instruments by PFA tubing, length approx. 3 m to instrument.
Total flow rate 1.5 liter per minute
Teflon inlet filter before analyzer, exchanged monthly.
Residence time in the sampling line: approx. 2 s

Measurement calibration |
: |
Intercomparison at the Regional Calibration Centre (RIII WMO) for Surface Ozone (RCC-BsAs) by WCC-Empa in 2006 and 2010. |
Scale and calibration(treasability) |
: |
The data refer to the WCC O3 standard.
Absolute scale, ppb. |
Data Processing |
Measurement unit |
: |
ppb |
Data processing |
: |
The data are processed according a statistical criteria.
If the variance is between 0 and 3, the value is correct.
If the variance is higher, the value is invalid. |
Processing for averaging |
: |
Processing for Hourly Data: The hourly mean value is calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the samples taken every 1 minutes. Processing for Daily Data: The daily value is calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the 24 hourly values taken during the day. Processing for Monthly Data: The monthly values are calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the days for that month. |
