Station Contact Person(s) Observation Data and Quick Plot

Observation
Category : Air sampling observation
Situation : ongoing
Time zone : UTC

Sampling
Sampling height : 5
Description : continuous
Sampling and analysis frequency : Continuous, measuring interval is 10 seconds (7 seconds flushing and 3 seconds integrating time).
Sampling environment : Marambio (the main Argentine station in Antarctica) is located in Seymour/Marambio ice-free Island, on the north-east side of the Antarctic Peninsula.

The average temperatures at the site are -1.5 °C during the summer, and −15 °C during winter, though strong winds can lower the apparent temperature down to −60 °C.
Prevailing winds are from the N-NW and S-SW, with a current average of 8.4 ms-1.

Possible sources are the power plant and the runway airplane located to the SW and N respectively.

Description for sampling analysis : Sampling and Analyses Intake height: 5 m above ground on top of the station building.
Inlet/Manifold: from there connections ozone instruments by PFA tubing, length approx. 3 m to instrument.
Total flow rate 1.5 liter per minute
Teflon inlet filter before analyzer, exchanged monthly.
Residence time in the sampling line: approx. 2 s

Instrument and Analysis
Measurement method : Light absorption analysis (UV)
Current status and history of instrument : TEI 49 #47306-278
Daily standard gas addition (1994-1997)
System and performance audit conducted by WMO - IFU November 1994.
System and performance audit conducted by WMO - EMPA November 1998.
System and performance audit conducted by WMO - EMPA November 2008.
Intercomparison at the Regional Calibration Centre for Surface Ozone (RCC-BsAs) by WCC-Empa in 2006 and 2010.
TEI49 (Thermo Environmental Instruments Inc.) worked since Dec. 1994 – to Nov. 2010 in Ushuaia GAW Station.
Since Oct. 2011 is working in Marambio Station.
Description of instrument : TEI 49 characteristics:
Internal ozone generator
Range: 0-100 ppb
Precision: 0.002 ppm
Linearity: ± 0.001 ppm
Noise: ± 0.001 ppm
Minimum detectable: Limit 0.002 ppm
Response Time: (0 to 95%) 20 seconds
Lag time: 10 seconds
Flow Rate: 1 – 3 liters per minutes
Analog output: 0-10 V

Calibration
Current scale employed in the measurement : Travelling standard, traceable to NIST
Measurement calibration : Intercomparison at the Regional Calibration Centre (RIII WMO) for Surface Ozone (RCC-BsAs) by WCC-Empa in 2006 and 2010.
Scale and calibration(treasability) : The data refer to the WCC O3 standard.
Absolute scale, ppb.

Data Processing
Measurement unit : ppb
Data processing : The data are processed according a statistical criteria.
If the variance is between 0 and 3, the value is correct.
If the variance is higher, the value is invalid.
Processing for averaging : Processing for Hourly Data:
The hourly mean value is calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the samples taken every 1 minutes.
Processing for Daily Data:
The daily value is calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the 24 hourly values taken during the day.
Processing for Monthly Data:
The monthly values are calculated as the arithmetic mean value of the days for that month.
Data flag : Flag 0– Valid data.
Flag 1- Invalid data
