Time zone : Local time +1

Sampling
Sampling height :
Description : filter
Sampling and analysis frequency : Daily
Sampling environment : Rural
Description for sampling analysis : Air samples are collected by means of a pump, air flow controller, gas meter system on a three stage filter pack through an air intake at 6 m above the ground. The air flow is about 12 l/minute, the sampling time is 24 hours. The second, potassium hydroxide impregnated filter absorbs the sulfur dioxide which reacts with potassium hydroxide to give solid potassium sulfite. The absorption is quantitative at a relative humidity above 30% and down to -10C or lower. Oxidizing species in air are believed to convert most of the sulfite during the sampling. Filters are extracted by deionized water and analyzed as sulfate by ion chromatography. The annual average concentrations are calculated from the monthly ones, while the monthly averages are based on the daily value.
